How recommendations are made

Unless a product is clearly described as personally used or tested, recommendations are based on research and comparison, including:

• manufacturer specs
• retailer listings
• rider feedback
• product availability
• terrain and use-case fit
• compatibility concerns
• price and value
• alternatives in the category

We do not say a product was tested, ridden, or used hands-on unless that is true.

Our standard

A product has to make sense for the rider.

If a cheaper option is the better buy, we will say so. If a popular product is overkill, we will say that too. If a product looks good on paper but has fit, compatibility, durability, or value concerns, those concerns belong in the recommendation.

Affiliate links are a way to fund the work — not a reason to recommend bad gear.
