Short answer: For the most power, buy a DJI Avinox M2S bike such as the Amflow PX Carbon or Pivot Shuttle AMP’d (up to 150 Nm, brand claim). For range and dealer support, the Specialized Turbo Levo 4 (840 Wh plus a 280 Wh extender). For the widest choice of bikes and shops, Bosch Performance Line CX, now up to 120 Nm. For a removable battery around $5,000, the Amflow PR Carbon.

The motors compared
All three systems have changed their headline numbers with software updates since 2025, so launch-day spec sheets are out of date. Here’s what each brand lists now.
| System | Peak power (brand claim) | Torque (brand claim) | Firmware history | Batteries | On bikes like |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Specialized S-Works 3.1 | 850 W | 111 Nm | 720 W at launch; raised to 850 W in Feb 2026 update | 840 Wh + 280 Wh extender (1,120 Wh) | S-Works Turbo Levo 4 |
| Specialized 3.1 | 810 W | 105 Nm | 666 W / 101 Nm at launch; raised in Feb 2026 update | 840 Wh + 280 Wh extender | Levo 4 Comp, Expert, Pro |
| DJI Avinox M1 | 1,000 W | 105 Nm (120 Nm Boost) | First-generation Avinox motor | Varies by bike | Amflow PL Carbon |
| DJI Avinox M2 | 1,100 W | 110 Nm (125 Nm Boost) | Announced 2026 | 800 Wh removable on Amflow PR | Amflow PR Carbon |
| DJI Avinox M2S | 1,300 W, or 1,500 W with FP700/RS800 batteries | 130 Nm (150 Nm Boost) | Announced 2026 | 700 Wh (Amflow PX), 800 Wh (Pivot, Amflow PR Pro) | Amflow PX, Pivot Shuttle AMP’d |
| Bosch Performance Line CX (Gen 5) | 600 W at launch; 750 W after July 2025 update | 85 Nm at launch; 100 Nm (July 2025 update); up to 120 Nm (Performance Upgrade 2.0, May 2026) | Over-the-air updates; the bike maker can cap them | 600 or 800 Wh PowerTube; PowerMore 250 extender | Santa Cruz Vala, Trek Rail+ |
Two cautions. First, each brand publishes its own peak figures, with no common test standard, so don’t read a 50 W gap as a real-world difference. Second, Avinox’s Boost torque is time-limited: Avinox says the M2S gives a maximum of 60 seconds at 150 Nm.[6] Avinox lists the rated (continuous) power of all three of its motors at 250 W.[6]
Bosch is open about the trade-off. It says higher performance settings mean “higher wear and lower range”, and the bike maker can limit maximum torque.[13]

Weights are brand claims for the size shown, and brands weigh differently (Amflow says it weighs bikes in factory configuration with mudguards, lights, pedals and protective film removed, set up tubeless).[4] Pivot, Santa Cruz and Trek weights are left blank because we couldn’t match a published weight to these exact builds. Trek’s US page wouldn’t load for us, so the Rail+ price and specs come from Trek Bicycle Stores of Florida, which also listed a $9,999.93 sale price.[15]
The Amflow PL Carbon and PL Carbon Pro appear in the table but aren’t among our picks.[5]
Power and climbing: which motor pulls hardest?
Verdict: On paper, an Avinox M2S bike pulls hardest: 150 Nm and up to 1,500 W against 111 Nm and 850 W for the S-Works Levo 4 and up to 120 Nm and 750 W for an updated Bosch CX. Those are brand figures, not our measurements.
Avinox leads on both torque and peak power, and the Levo 4 sits in the middle. Bosch CX has the lowest peak power, though Performance Upgrade 2.0 lets it run up to 600% support at low speed (up to about 9.3 mph), which Bosch pitches for technical, stop-start climbing.[13]
Is the S-Works motor worth it over the Comp, Expert or Pro?
Specialized lists the S-Works 3.1 at 850 W and 111 Nm and the motor in the Comp, Expert and Pro at 810 W and 105 Nm after the February 2026 update.[1][2][7][8] That’s a 5% peak power gap. The extra money mostly buys lighter parts and better suspension. The same update added Specialized’s “1x You” MicroTune option and three walk-assist speeds to all Levo 4 models, according to Flow MTB.[7]
Avinox M1 vs M2 vs M2S
Avinox lists motor weights of 2.52 kg (M1), 2.65 kg (M2) and 2.59 kg (M2S).[6] Every Avinox bike we pick uses the M2S except the Amflow PR Carbon, which uses the M2 (110 Nm, 125 Nm peak, per Amflow). The $6,799 PR Carbon Pro gets the M2S.[23]
Range, batteries and charging
Verdict: The Levo 4 has the biggest battery here: 840 Wh inside the frame, plus a 280 Wh Range Extender for up to 1,120 Wh. Pivot and the Amflow PR carry 800 Wh, the Amflow PX 700 Wh and the Santa Cruz Vala 600 Wh.
- Specialized Levo 4: 840 Wh internal. Specialized’s range claim for the S-Works is “up to 4.40 hours” with the 280 Wh extender in Eco mode for an 80 kg rider, and “up to 5 hours” for the Comp.[1][2] Treat both as best-case brand figures.
- Amflow PX: 700 Wh, fixed in the frame. Amflow’s FAQ says third-party battery extenders aren’t compatible and will void the warranty, and that Avinox’s RS600 removable battery is sold on the official site.[4] Amflow lists a 12 A, 508 W fast charger.[3]
- Amflow PR: Amflow’s first removable battery, 800 Wh. Amflow claims up to 158 km of range for the PR Carbon (flat paved road, Eco mode, 80 kg rider). The PR Carbon comes with a 4 A, 168 W charger. Amflow lists a 12 A, 508 W fast charger for the PR Carbon Pro.[16][23][25]
- Pivot Shuttle AMP’d: 800 Wh, per Pivot.[9]
- Santa Cruz Vala (Bosch CX): PowerTube 600 Wh only. Santa Cruz says 2027 Valas ship with a PowerMore 250 Wh extender.[10]
- Trek Rail+ 9.9 (Bosch CX): PowerTube 800 Wh, per Trek Bicycle Stores of Florida.[15]
Faster Bosch charging is coming: Bosch says its new 12A Charger charges “up to three times faster”.[12] Range extenders sit on the bottle mount on most of these bikes, so plan on a hip or back bottle. Our hydration pack guide covers that.
Best full-power e-MTB for your budget
These are big-ticket bikes, so we’ve grouped picks around about $5,000, about $8,000 and $10,000 and up. None of the bikes from these four motor systems comes close to $3,000. The cheapest is the Santa Cruz Vala AL Deore at $4,949.
Around $5,000
Verdict: The Amflow PR Carbon at $4,999 gives you the most motor and battery for about $5,000, and its 800 Wh battery comes out for charging. At $4,949, the Santa Cruz Vala AL Deore is the cheapest way into a full-power Bosch CX bike from a big brand with a big dealer network. The 2026 Turbo Levo 4 Comp at $5,999.99 is the best all-round buy if you can stretch to $6,000.
- Turbo Levo 4 Comp (2026), $5,999.99. Specialized’s own page shows it at $2,000 off its $7,999.99 list price. The 2027 Comp is listed at $7,999.99, so the 2026 bike is the deal.[2][8] Specialized
- Santa Cruz Vala AL Deore (2026), $4,949, was $6,199. Aluminum frame, Shimano Deore, Bosch CX and 600 Wh.[10][17] Jenson USA · Santa Cruz
- Amflow PR Carbon, $4,999. Avinox M2 (110 Nm, 125 Nm peak), 800 Wh removable battery, FOX AWL HD Sport 160 mm fork, FOX Float Rhythm shock, SRAM S1000 Eagle Transmission, Tektro four-piston brakes, and 22.6 kg claimed in size M, per Amflow.[16][23][25] The PR Carbon Pro is $6,799 in the US,[26] and steps up to the Avinox M2S (130 Nm, 150 Nm peak), a FOX 36 Performance fork, FOX Float X Performance shock and Magura Gustav Pro brakes, at 23.1 kg claimed in size M.[23][25] Amflow
- Also listed: Specialized lists a 2027 Turbo Levo 4 Alloy at $4,999.99.[8]
Around $8,000
Verdict: The Amflow PX Carbon at $7,999 gives you the most motor for the money. The Levo 4 Pro at $8,499.99 is the pick if you’d rather have Specialized’s dealer network and bigger battery.
- Amflow PX Carbon, $7,999. Avinox M2S, 700 Wh, FOX 36 Performance fork and FOX Float X Performance shock, Magura Gustav Pro brakes, and 21.0 kg claimed in size M.[3][4] Amflow
- Turbo Levo 4 Pro (2026), $8,499.99, was $9,999.99. 23.94 kg claimed in S4.[8] Specialized
- Santa Cruz Vala C 90, $8,199, was $9,099 at Jenson USA and Competitive Cyclist. Carbon frame, FOX 38 Performance fork, SRAM 90 T-Type and Maven Base brakes.[18][27] Jenson USA · Competitive Cyclist
$10,000 and up
Verdict: The S-Works Turbo Levo 4 is the most complete package. Pivot’s Shuttle AMP’d Ride is the Avinox alternative with a big-brand dealer network and a lifetime frame warranty.
- S-Works Turbo Levo 4 (2026), $10,999.99, was $11,499.99. 850 W/111 Nm, FOX 38 Factory, 23.68 kg claimed in S4. The 2027 S-Works is $12,499.99, with a 900 Wh battery and a RockShox ZEB Ultimate, per Specialized.[1][8] Specialized
- Pivot Shuttle AMP’d Ride, $9,499. Pivot also lists Pro X0 ($11,999) and Team XX ($14,499) builds.[9][14][27] Jenson USA · Competitive Cyclist · Pivot
- Santa Cruz Vala CC X0 AXS RSV (2026), $10,749, was $12,149 at Jenson USA. Competitive Cyclist has it at $10,949, and Santa Cruz lists the same build at $11,949.[10][19][27] Jenson USA · Competitive Cyclist
- Amflow PX Carbon Pro, $10,199. FOX 36 Factory GRIP X2 fork, Float X Factory shock, and 20.6 kg claimed in size M.[3][4] Amflow
- Trek Rail+ 9.9 X0 AXS T-Type Gen 5: $12,299.99 list at Trek Bicycle Stores of Florida.[15] Check Trek for current US pricing.
Best for other priorities
- Big Colorado climbs: an Avinox M2S bike, for the torque. Read the Colorado section below first.
- Shop support in a small town: a Bosch CX bike, since Bosch-equipped bikes are sold by the widest range of brands and dealers, or a Specialized. Check your nearest dealer before you buy.
- A removable battery: the Amflow PR or a Bosch PowerTube bike. The Levo 4, Amflow PX and Pivot use batteries that stay in the bike for charging.
Is a 1,000 W+ e-MTB legal on Colorado trails?
We can’t give a legal answer, and Colorado doesn’t settle it either. Our Colorado e-bike laws guide explains that state law defines e-bikes as having motors of no more than 750 watts and doesn’t say whether that means peak or rated power. That page also covers the October 2026 Attorney General advisory.
- Avinox: 1,000 to 1,500 W peak, but 250 W rated, per Avinox.[6] Amflow’s PX FAQ says owners can use the firmware to set peak power to 750 W “to comply with local laws”, and it lists a 20 mph assist limit for the US.[4] Amflow’s PR FAQ lists that motor at 250 W rated and 750 W peak, and says riders can set peak power to 750 W with firmware V01.03.01.10.[25]
- Specialized: 810 W or 850 W peak, measured at the chainring, per Specialized.[1][2]
- Bosch CX: up to 750 W maximum, even after Performance Upgrade 2.0.[13]
Before you ride, check the class label on the bike and the rules of the land manager whose trail you’re on. Many Colorado trails allow only Class 1 e-bikes or none at all.
Owning one: dealers, warranty and parts
Verdict: Specialized, Pivot, Santa Cruz and Trek have large US dealer networks. Amflow sells direct and through a smaller dealer list, so check service options near you before you buy one.

Amflow and DJI: Amflow’s PX FAQ says parts from other makers are covered under those makers’ warranties.[4] The newest bikes don’t have a long track record yet. EMTB Forums’ owner-report page for the PX, last updated October 2, 2026, says most owners report no problems but calls the bike “too young to judge”, with early reports of hard-to-get spare parts and motor rattle.[20] Amflow lists test rides and dealers on its test-ride page.
A $10,000 frame deserves a protection kit (see our frame protection guide). Heavy e-MTBs also chew through tires and sealant faster, so see our e-MTB tire guide and tubeless sealant picks.
When to buy
Verdict: Right now, 2026 model-year bikes are cheaper than 2027 ones. Specialized lists the 2027 Levo 4 Comp at $7,999.99 against $5,999.99 for the 2026 bike.[2][8] We don’t predict sales, but these 2026 bikes are marked down:
- S-Works Turbo Levo 4 (2026): $10,999.99, was $11,499.99 (Specialized)
- Turbo Levo 4 Pro (2026): $8,499.99, was $9,999.99 (Specialized)
- Turbo Levo 4 Comp (2026): $5,999.99, was $7,999.99 (Specialized)
- Santa Cruz Vala AL Deore (2026): $4,949, was $6,199 (Santa Cruz and Jenson USA)
- Santa Cruz Vala AL 70 (2026): $5,649, was $7,049 (Santa Cruz)
- Santa Cruz Vala C 90: $8,199, was $9,099 (Jenson USA and Competitive Cyclist)
- Santa Cruz Vala CC X0 AXS RSV (2026): $10,749, was $12,149 (Jenson USA); $10,949 at Competitive Cyclist
Two other things to weigh. Santa Cruz is offering a free PowerMore range extender when you buy a carbon Vala or Bullit (terms on its site).[10] And Bosch’s free Performance Upgrade 2.0 means a discounted 2026 Bosch CX bike can get the same 120 Nm ceiling as a new one, if the bike maker allows it.[13]
Deal watch: We’ll recheck from Black Friday (Nov 27) through Cyber Monday (Nov 30) and update this page.

FAQ
Which e-MTB motor is the most powerful in 2026?
On brand figures, DJI’s Avinox M2S: 150 Nm in time-limited Boost and up to 1,500 W peak. The S-Works Levo 4 lists 850 W and 111 Nm, and Bosch CX up to 120 Nm and 750 W.
Levo 4 vs Amflow PX: which should I buy?
The Amflow PX Carbon ($7,999) for torque and low claimed weight. A Levo 4 for the bigger 840 Wh battery, the 280 Wh extender and more dealers. The 2026 Levo 4 Comp is $5,999.99.
Is the Avinox motor better than Bosch CX?
More powerful on paper. Bosch’s strengths are its service network, removable PowerTube batteries and the number of brands that use it.
What is Bosch Performance Upgrade 2.0?
A free update Bosch released on May 4, 2026, for Performance Line CX and CX-R. It allows up to 120 Nm, 750 W and 600% support, if the bike maker allows it, with more wear and less range.
Is the S-Works Levo 4 worth the extra money?
Not for the motor alone: 850 W and 111 Nm vs 810 W and 105 Nm on the Comp, Expert and Pro, per Specialized. You’re paying mainly for parts and suspension.
Which full-power e-MTB has the longest range?
On capacity, the Levo 4: 840 Wh, or 1,120 Wh with the Range Extender. Real range depends on rider, terrain and mode.
Is Amflow reliable, and can US shops service it?
Too early to say. Amflow offers a 5-year frame warranty and 2 years on the drive system and battery. EMTB Forums calls the PX “too young to judge.” Find a dealer near you first.
Are 1,000 W e-MTBs legal in Colorado?
Colorado caps e-bikes at 750 watts without saying whether that’s peak or rated power. See our Colorado e-bike laws guide. This isn’t legal advice.
Can I add a range extender?
Specialized sells a 280 Wh extender for the Levo 4, and Bosch has the PowerMore 250. Avinox sells an RS600 battery, and Amflow says third-party extenders void its warranty.
When are e-MTBs on sale?
Model-year changeover. Some 2026 Levo 4 and Vala builds are up to $2,000 off. We’ll recheck from Black Friday through Cyber Monday.
